This week in Google 80 Civil Smackdown a podcast hosted by Becky Worley was the topic of Bing's stealing from Google. Becky Worley is an American journalist and broadcaster and a tech contributor for Goodmorning America on ABC and also does a tech podcast of whats going on the in world of technology.
Everybody knows that Google is the number one search engine especially compared to Microsoft's Bing. Apparently Bing is copying Google search results.Google monitors people's click streams and search results. Google is doing a better job in providing non copied material to us who use Google. Google wants you to see the original sites instead of the copy cats. Google also wants to be the be the best in spelling misspelled words.
In a recent research of the top ten word search results, Google noticed many similar words that were search in Bing's top ten word search results. At first Google blew it off for a couple of months, but then the similarities started showing up again. Strange misspelled words were the same as Google; this started last fall.
Google did a stinger. Some of the engineers made up some words and gave them definitions and typed that word into Bing's search engine. Sounds kind of tricky but it worked! The exact same word and exact same definition came up. "MZZ" is just one of the made up phrases and gave them a definition. Bing was caught in the act.
Is this copying material wrong? I think so. Microsoft responded to "We use thousands of different signals to create our results" when asked by Google how did they get this index. Is Google just trying to make Bing look bad? Does it really matter who gets the information first? Does this industry need to be regulated if we are going to acting like children over who has the most index in search engines? So many questions to be answered and concerns to think about. Personally I do not not care who gives or has the information first as long as I get what I need at the click of my fingertips

Google Giving a Helping Hand To Egyptians
The people of Egypt are going through a rough time as of now. Finally after six days of protesting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is stepping down. But this post is not about the issues that are facing Egypt. It is about what Google and Twitter are doing to help the citizens voice and show the world what was really going on in their country that had so much power over them.
Google has launched the latest way to communicate in an effort to overcome internet blackouts in Egypt during anti-government protests there. Twitter, Google, and SayNow(a server of google) have came together to let people share web messages by voice mail. In order to work one would have to have a international phone number. According to CNN for each call the service will instantly post a message to twitter with a link to listen to the message. "We hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time" says Google. In my opinion Egypt should have to right to have a voice and have internet service. I can't even image our world about cell phones and internet. Seeing everything that Egypt is going to through is making me very proud to be an American. I think this story is unique because it shows that even though there are many issues on how the U.S should help, we are helping by providing Egyptians with a way to get their voice out to the world. Any ounce of freedom is better than none at all.

OBAMA STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH
Watching the President give his state of the Union Speech make me feel excited about the changes that the United States of America will have in our future. He wants our technology to grow within the next five years. Throughout many hard times that we have faced recently Obama did a great job addressing the public about health care, tax cuts, and providing wireless services for almost the whole nation. Obama mentioned how the " Future is Ours to Win". This quote is a great way to begin the new year and give us American hope that throughout our struggles we are America and we can make it through any trials and tribulations.
As a communications major I find this is important and exciting to see how the world is about to change, technology going to grow and lives are going to get better. Even though some people may have lost faith in Obama after his speech today I feel that they should change their minds. He will wants America to be the greatest country ever.

CEO of Google is Stepping Down
CEO of Google Eric Schmidt is throwing in the towel. Schmidt is stepping down as CEO and will be taking on the role of Google’s Executive Chairman. Schmidt mentioned in the article that he will focus on broader business partnerships, technology leadership, product development and government outreach. In reading this article my first thought is why would someone who has had great success with Google want to step down? Schmidt stated that since Google has expanded the managing it has become a challenge. I have posted the link to this article.
